I did something like this with my Google Latitude history: http://imgur.com/a/gfzIH

but this visualization is far nicer!

sort by: page size:

I used it for exactly this when playing around with the data I exported from my Google location history. As a relative newcomer to GIS the process was pretty simple.

This looks similar to what I designed for myself using Meteogram[1].

Similarly cool as the web version of Google Earth: https://earth.google.com/web/

I hope this helps with getting started: https://w.wiki/3x3n

And here's a visualization on a map, using geocoordinates: https://w.wiki/3x3g

That's what google maps already does, and has been doing for ages... https://timeline.google.com/maps/timeline

Google Location History might have something (even if you don't expect it to) [1]

Try this link: http://es.b-ok.lat/

If you use android, take a look at https://www.google.com/maps/timeline

I actually have a map for that bookmarked; here it is:

My colleague just showed me http://geoguessr.com/, which is a pretty fun twist on the same concept.

Some years ago I've created an interactive map that serves similar purpose: https://weathernomad.com

I wrote a little script a few years ago to make a nice map out of my location history:

It would be a lot more useful if country contours were drawn too like https://gpsjam.org/ does.

Thanks. This is exactly what I wanted to see after reading the original post:

While not map based this link is the best History-as-a-Timeline implementation I have stumbled across so far (desktop only) ....

This is based on a different mapmaker's work (there are several of them), but is generally what you're looking for:
