Your well reasoned and nuanced comment has no place on HN. :-)

sort by: page size:

Pure ad hominem. This comment has no place on HN.

Could you give some justification for that criticism and assertion please? (On its own, your comment falls short of HN standards.)

I think you're missing the point entirely. I'm not saying my opinion matters, I'm just pointing out that this thread is definitely not supposed to be on HN, as is defined by the rules of the website. I'm not positing an opinion, I'm arguing for a fact.

This comment has so little to do with the actual article we're discussing that it stands as evidence for why HN can't discuss articles like this.

The last sentence of your comment, besides adding nothing to your argument, is way out of line for HN.

This is a mean spirited comment that doesn't belong on HN. Not going to argue but I don't feel that comments like these add anything of value to the discussion.

HN is not the right place for such a debate.

Please don't make comments like this. You haven't made any points about the post itself; you're just trying for a laugh. HN is not meant for that sort of thing; it's a slippery slope that leads to less intellectual discussion on the site.

I thought the rule of HN was to avoid comments like the above, that are baseless and devoid of content, derived purely from subjetive feelings about other people's opinions.

Hyperbolic nonsense. Please try and avoid this kind of comment on HN. It is more fitting for a site like reddit.

HN is really not the appropriate forum for this sort of straw man hyperbole.

It strikes me as ironic that you, as a relatively established member of HN, feel the need to resort to personal insults and general snarkiness in arguing that this article does not belong on HN.

I agree with you on the quality of the article and the simplistic reasoning by the author in reply to your comment, but at least he is showing some civility, as per HN's guidelines, which cannot be said of your comments in this thread.

I generally agree with you. My comment did not add to the discussion meaningfully, and I apologize for that.

I chose to comment because the author of the linked post and the HN submitter are the same person; my reaction came directly from this association. All the same, the remark doesn't belong on HN.

You assume that my comment defends one of this positions. It does not.

I merely observe how the popular opinion on HN contradicts itself.

I apologize but I cannot continue this thread. I've been warned before about ideological discussion on HN so I shall limit myself to expressing my opinion without elaborating.

And this sort of comment is exactly what's wrong with HN. You could have made these same points more effectively without baiting the person you're replying to.

I would rather you criticize the facts of my argument than the platform it's raised on.

I was under the impression HN has a certain sense of propriety in its "comment guidelines."

Or do you want to stoop as low as the forums you criticize?

Thanks

Oh a strawman comment on HN...

Your comment is the opposite of what HN is supposed to be. You've taken up a stance, please explain your reasoning instead of stating it as fact.

Lots of reasonable points could be made to counter that opinion.
