The M1 Max and M2 Max are quite serviceable too in not jumping to an ultra.

What are the affordable substitutes for the M2 Ultra?

Like the Max?

Mixtral 8x7b is better than both of those and runs on a top spec M3 Max wonderfully.

Maxima is more than hobbyist grade.

Ultra Pro Max+ Championship Edition

The A220-300 could also be a reasonable choice.

I read reviews that actually say that the 2nd gen pros have better ANC than the Maxs.

So depending on what’s important for you they may be the better choice.

+1 MSR is good gear. May not always be lightest, but they are working on that as well.

The Topping MX3 is also pretty good in my opinion and about half the price. That’s probably next down on the pareto frontier.

AS/400 TIMI comes to mind, and CLR as well.

Agreed, the xx70 models have consistently been a great price/performance option.

The 320M is usually considered an IGP and it's roughly the same performance as the Sandy Bridge IGP.

There’s nothing wrong with going slightly upscale to Warby Parker with accurate measurements and some QC, especially if you have a more “demanding” Rx.

A m7gd.medium looks like it would do all that inexpensively.

How about a Minnowboard Max?

The slightly less rugged, but also less heavy, "Latitude 5430 Rugged" (-Extreme) looks seriously interesting.

Trainers tops the list. Seems T800's aren't far behind.

Yep you're correct that V100s are available as spot instances. If you're willing to write some extra code for saving down weights you could easily go with them.

Actually, I'm renting V100s. Got lucky to know the right person at the right time:)

For that use case, you have a lot of far better specialized unikernels to choose from.
