.ru is double-plus-ungood.

What's the problem with .ru?

.ru sure?

Since .ru hosts a LOT of malware that's running wild, and I don't particularly care to view anything on .ru, we'll just agree to disagree.

Good arguments btw.

Better .su not .ru

.ru is but .com the other is european based.

.tv and .ru, that’s 2.

You don't particularly care to view anything on .ru, but you're complaining that you can't open a website (which you'd like to view) which is on .ru. What a bizarre thing to say.

This could be seen as abuse by the .ru and .su folks

I thought they banned all .ru domains?

.ru was an euphemism, I meant the country [Russia] not the specific .ru tld.

rutracker.org is hosted in Russia.

libgen and sci-hub are using a more complicated setup with lots of fronts (in various countries) run by people who know what they're doing. I believe the backend infrastructure is in Russia.

It will be very difficult to impossible for a .ru domain to gain traction with North American visitors for this purpose.

I don't touch .ru domains with a stick lol

Not all .ru sites are state-owned.

If you're in russia and you're using an email address at a .ru TLD... you're doing it wrong.

Russian authorities blocked some zlib domains in the past, so "ru" may be not suitable.

So they need a ".ru" domain, or some us-unfriendly country then?

Also, isn't .ru still a thing? (As is .us, for that matter.)

Blocking .ru URLs is ten times worse than a war and desinformation?

Russian website, yikes
