They also use square brackets and curly braces more often than writers. That's not as amusing, for some reason.
It does feel like the semicolon doesn't deserve a position on home row anymore. I would demote it for a different letter or even the question mark. Actually I might try this on my Ergodox.
I never use semicolons and I never have these issues.
Even in the rarest cases I maybe had them like when copy pasting in the wrong place they were so rare that I don't think it's worth the additional noise of semicolons.
Sure, which is what the rules always say, and is fairly straightforward. The hard part is actually using it because it usually looks so out of place to me. It's a chicken and egg problem, where semicolons are hard to comfortably use because they are so rare they look out of place when I try, and I assume part of the reason for their rarity is other people feel the same way.
Semicolons. I mean I got the hang of them eventually but it took a lot of banging my head against the keyboard. I only mention this because I'd guess that most people won't think of it.
I would love to hear an argument FOR "semicolon insertion" for a change. I only ever hear arguments against it. Personally I would prefer to avoid unnecessary line noise if the interpreter can figure it out for me given the context.
The semicolon is the least-annoying non-letter character to type. It's right there on your home row.
