how about using an actual operating system? :P

sort by: page size:

Just use a base OS that has what you need? :D

or use Linux instead of Windows..

Just build my own operating system, ok.

Or maybe take out the operating system

You're already using a hobbyist operating system... Your horse isn't as high as you think.

This question has been around since I connected to the internet. The response has always been to use a reasonably decent OS.

No, shitty operating systems make that impossible.

Yeah, I have two, and there is no way to put some proper OS on them :~((.

An alternative: Use a dedicated Linux machine as your main OS, and then run windows on a separate device when you need it.

Or you could, you know, migrate to another OS like Linux or MacOS ;)

Really need to replace the OS with something flexible like FreeBSD or Linux, then the possibility becomes limitless.

Only good option is nuke the Windows and use the better OS, like GNU/Linux, FreeBSD or OpenBSD etc.

Sure, use unsupported OS. You can always install Windows XP for maximum stability.

That may be a good idea, but I honestly haven't looked into it. My preference is for operating systems to just work, rather than me change all my motherboards to accommodate them

No thanks. I rather user proper computers with usable OS.

This is quite helpful, thanks. What would prompt someone to go this way, I wonder? There are some pretty minimal OS options out there these days.

Or just use a Linux distro and avoid all M$ shit

Option 3: Use an OS (or at least OS version) that offers better defaults, while still running the software that you need.

Lol - I found a wikihow page to answer your question. :-D
