Tens of thousands caring out of a population of 350 million is 0.03% of the population. That's kinda tepid. But should Paula Deen have been fired from Food Network? Crisis of epic proportions!

That's tens of millions of people, what the problem?

One hundred people! That's an epidemic.

I think it’s the number of people which is the problem. Also, there are not 400m Americans. Yet.

Your calculation is wrong, there are a thousand millions to the billion. If there was a 1/1,000,000 chance across 10 billion people, it would be 10,000 people affected.

Just for perspective: 1% of 1 billion is 10 millions. That's a lot of people and then some.

Turns out 40% of several billion is a pretty large number.

1% is a lot... why can't people deal with percentages of large numbers? Its COVID all over again. 1% of 7 billion is 70 million. Thats ten holocausts!

Supply and demand means I won't go hungry, but less valuable people absolutely will. Like the Ukranians during the holodomor...

Millions of people?

> Who even needs that crap…

Apparently, about a billion people around the world.

This stuck with me from Marvin Minsky's TED talk:

> Anyway, the question I think people should talk about -- and it's absolutely taboo -- is, how many people should there be? And I think it should be about 100 million or maybe 500 million. And then notice that a great many of these problems disappear. If you had 100 million people properly spread out, then if there's some garbage, you throw it away, preferably where you can't see it, and it will rot. Or you throw it into the ocean and some fish will benefit from it. The problem is, how many people should there be?

the 0.1% could be hundreds of thousands of people?

We are talking about an awfully high number of people right now. I was thinking on a global scale.

What a bummer of a thing to say.

Those millions/billions of people matter a great deal.

Yeah, what's the matter with four billion human beings?

Sad but true, there are just too many people. 11 billion?

> for probably more than a billion or two people

That's a few orders of magnitude off.

Millions out of what? Big scary number without context says nothing whatsoever.

Good Grief, that's like 7 billion people around the world.

You confuse "exists" with "matters to more than a thousand people".
