Actually they don't have that authority. That's an abuse of their power.

I can only assume because it’s not “their” kind of authority taking power.

They absolutely and obviously hold that power. It is just not in their interests at the moment to rock the boat.

Why is that? Potentially they have a lot of power, but did they exercise it in a wrong way in public so far? I don’t think so

They have no concept of a limit. In a world order as unbalanced as today's, granting themselves this kind power with no proportional responsibility risks forfeiting their authority.

They do have the power. Just not the desire to use it in certain ways. This is where lobbyists come in.

That's simply not how political power works.

That's not exactly something that most people have any power over.

Hope all you'd like but that doesn't change the fact that they'll do whatever they want because you have no power.

They aren't too official, and there has been controversy recently over how much power they have.

I know that, and that doesn't exempt them from accusations of using their reach to actively manipulate the population to gain political power.

They don’t have any power over the government or the average US voter. They only have power over random corporate employees and universities.

Well I also questioned whether they should be given as much power, since it can lead to abuse. Would be as simple as changing a law so they can no longer abuse their power. And if it's not that simple, maybe you have to question why.

Because they can get away with it. That's it. It's a power struggle.

You dont but they do. They want power. They want to be the authority.

They get to tell them so. I don’t think a holder of sovereignty has to have active power. Weee human beings. Symbolic power matters. If it’s ever not enough, we’ll find another way.

Most people don't have any influence. And that rules don't apply (or at least apply just selectively) to powerful people is no surprise either.

Yeah really strange that people don't like other people with the power to write, interpret, and enforce riles against them, and who they have no power to remove from their position if they abuse it.

They have a lot of potential political power. They refuse to use it.

I know you're being sarcastic, but those who aren't politicians and judges and lawmakers don't wield any power.

Things like 702 exist specifically for lawmakers and judges - otherwise you can't blackmail and extort them, and the coup by the IC doesn't work.
