That's one of the core principles of how propaganda works. And Russians are currently utilizing it perfectly.

Russian propaganda war is based on this principle.

They are not transmitting coherent alternative narrative. They as just delivering constant stream of bullshit faster than it can be debunked. Just increasing the cognitive load and creating cognitive dissonance is a valid propaganda method.

That's a general accusation, but what exactly are you referring to? Can you provide examples?

> blatant Russian propaganda

Propaganda isn't so blatent; it's used because it works.

Aside from every other fact it's worth remembering that Russia is quite likely the best in propaganda, I mean they had 50+ years experience spreading it to like half of the world's landmass.

This is clear Russian propaganda.

I think many Russian people, especially those who watch or read mainly Russian news, hold such views with complete sincerity. The internal propaganda is quite effective.

There is now another 'form' of propaganda that seems to be being used:

> We characterize the contemporary Russian model for propaganda as “the firehose of falsehood” because of two of its distinctive features: high numbers of channels and messages and a shameless willingness to disseminate partial truths or outright fictions. In the words of one observer, “[N]ew Russian propaganda entertains, confuses and overwhelms the audience.”[2]

> Contemporary Russian propaganda has at least two other distinctive features. It is also rapid, continuous, and repetitive, and it lacks commitment to consistency.

> Interestingly, several of these features run directly counter to the conventional wisdom on effective influence and communication from government or defense sources, which traditionally emphasize the importance of truth, credibility, and the avoidance of contradiction.[3] Despite ignoring these traditional principles, Russia seems to have enjoyed some success under its contemporary propaganda model, either through more direct persuasion and influence or by engaging in obfuscation, confusion, and the disruption or diminution of truthful reporting and messaging.

For a history of propaganda, the book Munitions of the Mind by Philip M. Taylor may be of some interest (the third edition was published in 2003, so covers up to 9/11):

> Russians have vastly superior propaganda and probably in control of global politics

Or maybe the nature of propaganda versus "factual news" is just that much more effective. It's not out of the realm of possibilities considering propaganda has been used effectively in all sorts of mediums for centuries now.

Russian propaganda is really good and works rather effectively. Which is no surprising as they use techniques mastered during 70 years of communism.

A colleague from work who works on integration a of a translation service in our product said that he needed a brain wash to clean up the propaganda after reading all those Russian news translated with the service.

I am curious, is that propaganda effective within Russian people?

Russia propaganda is effective because it managed to make people to believe very big lies. Even in Ukraine some people believe it despite the realities of war.

Propaganda from USA does not need to stretch the truth anywhere near the same scale and with that it is much more easier to affect more people.

We need to be taking this as an object lesson in the destructiveness of propaganda. So many Russian people have been so brainwashed by state propaganda over the last two-some decades that they cannot even comprehend that there's a different way.

Funnily enough, this is one of the key goals of Russian propaganda machine. If you can convince people that everything is equal lies, you can lie to them as you like and they'll consider it alongside all the other narratives. Convenient!

Russian propaganda.

it is, and that's important to know. most russians (and more importantly russians abroad) are presented with the same tired old propaganda they always did

It's not that surprising USSR had top notch propaganda machine as does Russia now. Suppressing this information was/is pretty high on the agenda.

obfuscation and false-equivalence is the best defense against propaganda accusations. did wonders for russia these last couple years.

The goal of Russian propaganda is to spread doubt and distrust. The aim is to get people to believe that objective truth doesn’t exist, and that ALL elites are corrupt.

I think Russia is aiming its obvious bullshit at Russians, where the media is entirely propaganda. Provided they don't actually admit it, they can spin it.

Russians are incredible good in spreading all kinds of fake information.
