Wow. Do they count UK population as unclaimed UK citizens(sons, grandsons,...) ?

I had no idea there was such a massive diaspora going on.

Not everyone who lives in the UK is a British National

Maybe there are lots of people from the UK here.

Most of us have. Confusingly, there are 6 different types of British nationality, and there are still some British subjects around.

Are quite a lot of them British?

British subjects are very rare, and have been since the '80s: https://www.gov.uk/types-of-british-nationality/british-subj...

Huh. TIL I was born a British subject, but lost the status in 1987.

Aren't most of those people waving Union Jacks genetically/ethnically Anglo? As in they are descendants of people from England.

Wait are you being sarcastic?

UK = Great Britain + Northern Ireland

Great Britain = England + Scotland + Wales

So technically if they're registered in the UK they're a part of Ireland I suppose.

As a UK resident, I can't help but wonder which group you're including the UK in. We're both a European and an anglophone country!

.uk does belong to the uk though.

I'm a bit annoyed that British Citizen is filed under U (for United Kingdom).

This is the entire UK population, not a 'sub population'...

Surprisingly (to me), most citizens of Britain are not technically "British subjects."

but aren't they residents anyways?(not tourists for course) as in British resident someone that resides/lives in GB?

Might be ex-patriate, but it's safe to assume that people in London are british unless told otherwise...

I bet 95% of those come from England.

British people.

I know, I'm a UK citizen. :)

Would be a nice thought, but literally nobody means the descendants of the Britons where talking about being British.

If they did, depending upon what that encompasses, then either large swathes of Scotland would be included (Glasgow is a Brythonic name!), or you'd be excluding England from the discussion.

Largely without fail, someone talking about Britain is talking of the island itself, or the current inhabitants.
