Ah that sounds about right. As someone in an interracial marriage I found the picture the article painted of the site abhorrent. I was still thinking freedom of speech was important and didn't want hosting providers to step in unless clear laws were broken.
If you and your partner's photos, phone numbers, home addresses, and other personal details appeared on this website, would you be making this same argument?
Yes I probably would. I'd be looking for legal means to shut them down. But opposed to having the site shutdown by hosting providers reacting to media pressure.
I've been on the other side of this. Had articles written that caused friends to be banned from a public university. There was no due process. The articles were not correct.
Legal process must be followed for society to remain just.
You're lying. This is obviously a white supremacist site. See:
One section is titled “toll paid,” and it lists women who have been in interracial relationships, and had something horrible happen to them, like death or injury.
I'm curious how many White women need to be beaten, raped and killed before someone like you might acknowledge that there does exist a disparity, and that your passive tolerance (or, in many cases, active encouragement) has very real, harmful effects on our most vulnerable and impressionable people?
I wonder if you would be so blasé if the reverse was true: if there was a shocking trend of lower class black women being violently assaulted by White men, and an endless stream of media and advertisements as well as social reinforcement encouraging them to pursue such relationships?
I wonder if you refuse to acknowledge the trend at all, either because you are genuinely naive (perhaps wilfully) or because its implications are so damaging to your worldview that the cost exceeds the value of your blissful illusion and acceptance by your liberal peers?
There is a difference between acknowledging and discussing facts that may be uncomfortable, and using facts selectively as a way to justify hatred and violence. (This isn't a comment either way about the veracity of your research).
Also, the parent post made no mention either way regarding anything you've suggested. "Wondering" about things in this way is a common tactic of bad-faith argument.
is this actually a problem? there are so many people in the world that you can always find cherry picked examples to prove your point. white men commit domestic violence, does that mean no-one should date white men?
Suppose there were two types of parachute to pick from: a black one with a 10% failure rate, and a white one with a 0.001% failure rate. An extraordinary number of movies, TV shows, commercials, celebrities, influencers, etc preach the virtues of using the black parachute for skydiving. You observe an unfortunate number of low-IQ, lower class people plunging to their deaths wearing black parachutes.
Would you still shrug your shoulders and say "oh well, the white ones fail too"?
"The cucks refer to the white men who date women on the coal fax registry. These “men” deserve to be shamed and humiliated. Once you go black, we don’t want you back."
I don't buy that some people are so naive that they can look at a website like this, the white supremacists who obviously occupy it, and think it's a good spirited joke by normal non-racist people. White supremacy is on the rise, and it's scary seeing the denial tactics make their way to Hacker News.
I think it's far from a good spirited joke. It's clearly gone too far and is causing real harm to real people.
That's often the fall out of these 4chan esk dark humour groups.
Generally these groups also pull in the genuinely hate filled as well.
Also to say it's only creates for humour doesn't justify it's existence. It's does make it a very different beast than a genuine white supremacist group.
It's different because these people are rage farmers. They want articles like this. They want their actions to cause outrage. They want them to be noticed. To them that's the goal. The goal is not to be exposed as a group of immature idiots causing real harm. These are like school children that carve swastikas on their desk just because they know they shouldn't.
>These are like school children that carve swastikas on their desk just because they know they shouldn't.
This analogy works well for young people posting on 4chan, but if that same person creates a web platform to organize people to put swastikas on buildings, that person is almost certainly not doing this just because they know they shouldn't.
> This analogy works well for young people posting on 4chan
Nevermind Dylan Roof, the Christchurch massacre, etc. To pass this off as harmless fun is really missing the point. Some of these kids take it very seriously and act on it with tragic consequences.
The white birth rate must go lower, every white baby is a victory for white supremacy, do your duty as an anti-racist and have sex with a black person.
The excuse that 4channers are all just innocent, mischief-making kids and it's the rest of society that's the real problem is really starting to wear thin.
If someone says they're only fucking goats ironically, they're still a goatfucker. If a community is being racist ironically to the point that actual racists take its shit seriously, mass shooters shout it out in their manifestos, and that community harasses and doxxes people for racist reasons, then that's just a racist community. If someone gets off on the outrage that racism generates, then they're just a racist and an asshole.
Irony is not magical fairy dust that can be sprinkled over one's actions to make their consequences disappear. And really, at this point I don't think we can give 4chan and the like the benefit of the doubt that it's all just memes. Eventually, if you wear the mask long enough, you become the mask. 4chan became the mask a long time ago.
That doesn't make it not explicitly racist and white supremacist. If you set fire to a synagogue and then explained it was just to trigger the libs, do you think that would make it less of an anti-Semitic act?
Oh please, a website that aims to shame race-mixing, even as a joke, deserves comparison to white supremacist and neo-nazi groups.
Those are the groups that find "comedic value" in a site like this. It it appears to have content that directs harassment and hatred at real people, so I would think really hard if "just a joke" is really the excuse you want to make for hate speech like this.
> It’s called “accelerationism,” and it rests on the idea that Western governments are irreparably corrupt. As a result, the best thing white supremacists can do is accelerate their demise by sowing chaos and creating political tension. Accelerationist ideas have been cited in mass shooters’ manifestos — explicitly, in the case of the New Zealand killer — and are frequently referenced in white supremacist web forums and chat rooms.
The definition provided at the end is basically correct.
The idea behind Marxism is that we're in an intermediate phase, before moving to Socialism, and then Communism. Guys like Stalin and Mao wanted to push that forward, quickly, and accelerate the transition to some sort of glorious workers paradise.
Accelerationism is a right-wing spin on that, where they decry the modern world as unstable and due to collapse -- hence it's popularity with the militia/prepper types. Just like with Communist Great Leap Forward, the Accelerationism is designed to, you know, accelerate that collapse, the rationale being that the sooner it collapses, the sooner it can be rebuilt. And if there is a rebuilding, it can be rebuilt the way you want it, with an emphasis on authoritarianism, and a lot of implied discrimination, libertarianism, Christian Dominion, etc.
Intellectually it's tied to the "Dark Enlightenment" pablum that's pushed by a handful of Alt-Right types, most notably Peter Thiel, but it's adherents are generally the alt-right 8chan-ner / militia types.
Accelerationism's focus on the collapse of the US Government and breakdown into smaller ethnic and social nations is VERY similar to Dugin's "Foundation of Geopolitics"[1], and it's likely that foreign propaganda has embraced Accelerationism as a way to destabilize the US Government.
