Same experience with an LG short-throw projector. I regret it and now it always shows up on the cast menu but it doesn't work.

Consider a short-throw projector instead: zero "smart" features, multiple inputs, relatively portable, adjustable screen size.

Buy a short-throw projector instead. Most have only display inputs, no network connection.

Maybe a decent short-throw projector?

It's probably a software problem at heart though, if you include firmware level. Since VGA-connectors went out of fashion I'm still to use a projector that Just Works without having to use it 10 times before figuring out all its quirks.

How about a short-throw projector?

What's the issue with the projector? I plug mine in and... it appears. (Scaling issues aside)

can't see anything on that projector :-(

I built a projector with a ripped apart 15" LCD monitor and overhead projector decades ago, and we could not have been more excited to do some shooter games. We had had a PS2 and light guns all rigged up ready to go, before we noticed the fine print: does not work on projectors, does not work on LCD. And we were running via a tv-input card on a computer. It did not work for us. Delighted to see someone who made it further than we did.

You can use a short-throw projector - many inputs, no software, no network connection, adjustable screen size, flexible placement.

Years ago I switched to a dumb short throw projector. Now I get a huge clear picture connected to an Apple TV and a decent set of speakers. I do not regret my decision. No crappy smart software. Just on and off.

crappy projectors are everywhere :(

edit: and I've only ever had bad experiences with [X]->VGA adapters

congratulations.

a projector won't work for everyone.

What projector?

Microvision has been touting those projectors for at least most of a decade now. They're so incredibly awesome, if they work and don't have major drawbacks, that I conclude they don't really work. :(

I took E16, newly installed on my laptop, to a work presentation once. I was really excited to turn the thing on and see everyone's eyes bug out. But I plugged the projector in and it turned out there was some strange compatibility problem. One step forward, two back.

Buy a used one. Or even better - buy a projector.

That’s an ultra short throw which is different as it’s aiming for around 2 inches from the projector to the screen. Short throw is more in the 4 foot range while producing an image several times that size. https://youtu.be/Fu_U0HS7axk

A normal projector is 11+ feet from the screen. The diagonal being approximately the same as the distance from the projector to the screen.

I have seen short throw 4K projectors from around 1,500$ but IMO they are a poor fit for home theater as the screen ends up as a bright object in people’s view.

Fix the computer projector stupidity: Almost every conference, meeting I attend has at least one case of a person connecting their laptop and the display not working because of some incompatibility between the projector and laptop.

Good news is that projectors are still dumb. Just input selector and picture settings.
