I think what is making people uncomfortable is the realization it's always been policy.

Perhaps modern life allows the issues to be explored honestly and openly, and that makes you uncomfortable.

I understand why you are saying this, but one should not be made uncomfortable by reality. That may be the case for some, but it is easier to change mindset than it is to alter reality.

I'm not sure it is. There are disimilarities of course, but there are enough similarities to support the point they were making. That it makes you uncomfortable doesn't invalidate that.
