Note that their revenue generator is Toutiao, not TikTok.

Does TikTok make a profit though?

I guess you are not aware that TikTok is both highly profitable and valuable.

For those ofnus less intimately familiar with the TikTok platform and their payouts and their revenue, can you explain why not? I thought they show (video) ads and use money to run the company and pay creators.

That's somewhat ironic since TikTok pays certain content creators, although apparently not well.

Perhaps read a bit about reels from the last earnings, they are eating tiktoks lunch and generating massive engagement.

You are trying to fit the facts to your own narrative, which unfortunately isn’t correct.

It's made by individuals, not TikTok? I'm not really sure if you know what TikTok is after this comment.

Just to clarify, TikTok does not do ad revenue sharing. They have a creator fund, but TikTok creators really make money via brand deals, merch sales and direct donations from fans.

That has nothing to do with TikTok.

This is great, but even if it is not really in the scope of the article, it's extremely important to know how TikTok makes money. Maybe an external link?

Also, anyone else remembered that scene in Idiocracy? (Not that Tiktok is likely to be as bad...)

TikTok is a media platform. They are buying audience.

>as it has bigger reach for their markets.

TikTok has a horrible conversion rate though.

While they're not being paid by TikTok, they are getting attention, and companies are happy to pay them for promotion/ads.

You're right about the chicken&egg problem though. Who's picking up the traffic when TikTok is banned? Instagram?

This is for TikTok EMPLOYEES. Not shareholders at large. Very misleading headline

TikTok has 100k employees and shoes shits money.

Their business is whatever their metrics say it is. In this case, TikTok is eating their lunch, so their business is to replicate TikTok.

TikTok had $4.6 billion revenue in 2021, Meta had $117 billion. TikTok has stolen some fries but Meta still has a huge juicy steak.

Proving that TikTok is just a money-making enterprise, not a CCP tentacle manipulating foreign elections. Otherwise they you just run it at a loss, like Voice of America or RT.

TikTok makes its money selling data to governments like the CCP. The ads aren't paying for all that bandwidth.

It wouldn't surprise me to learn they advertise on TikTok and added this as a response to that.

yes, tiktok is stealing all the ad revenue from facebook, twitter, google, etc.
