Absolutely no money was earned or was expected.

If my intentions were money driven I could have thrown up ads or offers to try and convert (or just a simple lander with one signup offer). 42,200+ unique views yesterday would make most marketers very happy. Those weren't my intentions at any point.

Thanks for your encouraging words. Probably because we didn't do any paid marketing.

Oh, I don't make any money with ads.

There's no money in advertising to uploaders, the only money in this is advertising to the recipients. That's a lesson it took me an embarrassingly long time to learn.

I bet you're making no where close to 1k. There's no ads.

He probably didn't or used ads. He can always use the user base later on for other projects.

Revenue is to be made on unique visitors and impressions. No clicks are required.

Being a destination site definitely does not help your ad revenues.

I don't think META is looking for investors. And for advertisers, only the wasted time of those who are shown ads is of interest.

My point is more that I don't think ads will generate any $ at at due to the nature of the website.

It had no ads or other potential for revenue the day it came out.

The thousand dollars of yearly revenues is not worth the impression of me being unprofessional by having advertisements plastered on my online persona.

Maybe because you said you don't mind people getting ad revenue? Sadly, from what I've seen around here recently, that would do it!

No one was buying ads here - they were just sharing content for free, and amplifying each other.

good plan, no ads = no click revenue

To be fair, none of that involved selling ads.

The ultimate goal is to make money, not serve ads.

Exactly. I didn't pay 300€ for an ad delivery mechanism.

As a matter of principle - I don't pay to advertise my start-up.
