3rd party apps are a better experience than old.reddit.com to be honest. Rif, sync, boost, relay, etc.

Just commenting to say that there are third-party reddit apps that are pretty good. Boost for Android is the only way I browse reddit anymore.

There are several good 3rd party reddit apps available. RIF on android is my choice.

May I recommend using any 3rd party app for reddit instead of the official app. I use relay on Android and it is great. There are many other options, all of them are better than the official app.

why would you need to use their app? there are much superior third party apps like Boost for Reddit or Sync for Reddit

Yup, Reddit Sync is great, Relay for Reddit also! The official app is such a disappointment in comparison.

Try out Boost for Reddit. Better than website in any form, the official Reddit app, and every other 3rd party app imo

The third party reddit apps are a lot better. I prefer Reddit Is Fun on Android but I know there are several good options besides that on both mobile platforms.

There are great third party mobile apps for Reddit, like Sync for Reddit and many others too — give them a try!

definitely, i do not like the official app. you can try Relay for Reddit, Sync for reddit, Boost, Infinity, if you are on android. (i personally use reddit is fun, but that's because im accustomed to it, it's ugly)

on iphone, apollo is undoubtedly the best choice.

What are the best third party reddit apps?

I use Boost for REddit which is miles better than the original app

Agree on both fronts. Reddit is way improved with an app, but the official app is trash. I prefer relay, but I know that there are many other quality apps out there that folks recommend. Feel free to comment with your favorite.

Tbf there are third party apps that work quite well, I'm somewhat fond of Relay for Reddit myself and never have any issues with it. The official app is unfortunately complete trash.

Right now I'm not seeing any of these problems that OP is talking about when using old.reddit either. I think I may have ublocked all the banners and popups at some point.

At least reddit allows third party apps.

Have you tried any of the third party android apps? Definitely a step ahead of old.reddit and many times better than the current default...

It's best at a desktop with old.reddit and res, but the better apps are a close second.

I can't use reddit as comfortably without a third-party app now.

Sync for Reddit is how I roll.

Nobody uses the official reddit apps. I've been using third party reddit apps (which are amazing) since 2010 (Galaxy S1).

I've been using old.reddit.com for years, nice and snappy (enough) website and easy to navigate.

Similarly I use Baconreader on my phone which is also pretty great.

I've never seen a compelling reason to use "new" reddit or the official reddit app. If they want to kill third party apps then they need to make their own offering much better, which I highly doubt will ever happen.

The third party apps supported two important functions that the official Reddit app sucks at:

1) Reading assistance for people with sight impairment. Reddit has granted a pass for some apps on this basis though.

2) Moderation and Modmail. For people on the move, or, for example, where you're in front of a business PC or laptop all day, with Web restrictions or personal use policies. The mobile apps were extremely useful for moderation.

I did use the Boost app, but have moved to the official Reddit one for mod work; it's buggy and prone to erroring when trying to complete an action so you have to keep repeating things to make them 'stick'.

This is why the mods are up in arms because it's hard work at the best of times.
