Engineers have very little say in what to build.

The engineers are definitely not in charge.

Engineers don't set policy.

Are you sure? Engineers have no control over the isolated designers

Engineers aren't in the room when they decide who is doing the most critical work.

engineers don't set policy

Engineers were not encouraged to think independently.

I feel bad for the engineers there, who clearly are not in charge.

Engineers can only fix so much, they can not really do permitting and regulation

Yes they have engineers but they're all nearsighted, uncreative and high hubris engineers with little to no empathy.

None of this is in the control of the average engineering manager. Seriously, 0%.

Evidently, only they are allowed to do engineering. The rest of us are expected to shut up and buy the products.

Only thing they are engineering is money from taxpayers

Two engineers who are not aligned with each other's goals will easily do the work of zero people.

I’m sure it’s the engineers deciding to do that and not management and leadership.

Exactly this. I have to wonder if the engineers were even asked for their opinion.

No Engineer, no matter how smart, can sway a corporation directed by a political culture that has non-feature goals.

It’s pretty transparent at my company that no one in the engineering hierarchy has any authority over the physical plant, not even the CTO.

In this story: engineers can't come to a conclusion because they are trying to solve a political problem instead of an engineering problem.

This seems more of an issue with where the company invests resources than to the engineer themselves.
