Engineers don't set policy.

engineers don't set policy

Engineers have very little say in what to build.

The engineers are definitely not in charge.

Stop blaming engineers for stupid policies. Engineers usually have no say, this is almost always thought up by some manager or PM somewhere.

The engineers hadn't factored in management's contribution.

"Keep engineers happy" is not the same thing as "let engineers do whatever the hell they want".

Engineers aren't in the room when they decide who is doing the most critical work.

Deciding that the Engineers don't understand is not something a bureaucracy should be doing, period.

Maybe you should go complain to your legislators. Engineers don't have the Constitutional authority to enact policy willy nilly.

None of this is in the control of the average engineering manager. Seriously, 0%.

That's forcing the engineer to do what they should be doing. You can blame them for not doing that but that doesn't absolve the engineer of not doing what they should be doing.

Engineers were not encouraged to think independently.

Engineers aren’t in charge. Unlike lawyers, surgeons, even dental hygienists, they aren’t making the calls.

No engineers at FAANG companies get to think, they do what the board members and execs tell them to.

I don't see why engineers should be particularly responsible. I don't see how any work could be done without everything from entrepreneurial or financial, legal, to janitorial help.

In this story: engineers can't come to a conclusion because they are trying to solve a political problem instead of an engineering problem.

Are you sure? Engineers have no control over the isolated designers

I'm not saying it was the right decision, but the thesis that they didn't think about it because they're engineers just isn't true.

I’m sure it’s the engineers deciding to do that and not management and leadership.
