I mean looking into his mental state is certainly not ridiculous. No matter for or against Musk's his politics, business ventures or 4chan edgelord shit. Being in his position must leave marks on your mental health.
I'm a bit perplexed that you see trashing a man's character with certainty as right and pondering if his actions could reflect a struggle with mental illness as wrong.
I don't like Musk, nor do I trust the things he says, but I usually err on the side of granting people some humanity.
Musk's behavior increasingly suggests he has psychiatric problems. Even if there is someone around him with the guts to suggest he seek help, he probably wouldn't listen.
It would be callous of me explicitly to spell it out, but, going forward, his reputation may be the least of his worries.
Really Elon Musk has struck me as honestly in need of psychiatric help - not in a derogatory way but a sincere one. Between the outbursts, shortsighted impulsive decisions, and well being CEO of so many different companies at once it sort of resembles some combination of ADHD and Bipolar.
People have pointed out that he’s likely going through mental health issues and Im inclined to agree with them.
He went a bit too far with the Twitter buyout stunt.
Honestly, he should just get off social media and take a vacation or something. But of course he’s too egotistical to do that and will try to muddle his way through it. Its amusing to watch as an outsider but I can’t imagine its a lot of fun for people at Musk companies (+ Twitter).
This is a forum. People will say stuff. You may or may not agree with the stuff they say. They'll do it anyway. Judging someone's mental state as an outsider is fine as long as you don't purport to do it from the perspective of telling them what to do next, that's pretending you're a doctor. But I've seen plenty of actual doctors do remote diagnosis of Musk's various mental issues (ditto: Trump, Putin) and I'm fine with it, I just take it with a grain of salt. If we take being a sad excuse of a human being as a reflection of someone's mental state then you are in fact engaging in the same, the only difference is whether or not you use terms with clinical relevance.
I think that’s a reasonable and charitable interpretation (which is not a bad thing imo). I haven’t been much of a Musk fan for a while now, but I still think it’s important to recognize that he’s still human and he’s definitely going through some shit.
Paranoia is categorically the mental illness that prevents someone from recognizing a friend (and maybe catatonia/coma). But when you say "someone with a serious mental illness" you make a sweeping statement that's just...fucked up and lacking of human empathy.
Moreover, you don't know Kanye. You're not his friend (I'm assuming?) Your comments on his possible friendships are lacking in authority. Actually everyone's comments (excepting the few that have actually close relations/have been affected directly) on Kanye's, Elon's, the fucking Queen's, personality and character are moot and lacking in weight.
I agree that Musk, as a flawed human being with disproportionately large amounts of control in the form of money, might not make the world a perfect (or even better) place with even more, other forms of control. But whether or not he's personable? Whether or not his intentions are good? I don't know any of that, and I won't pretend to.
It's worse than I expected. Musk is out of his gourd. I don't know if it's the drugs or actual insanity but I don't just see an asshole but someone losing touch with reality. It's not autism or even "outsourcing his politics", he is barely coherent. This man will likely need institutional help.
I think it's unfair to imply this relationship between mental illness and treating people badly. Most people with mental illness don't do things like that, and Musk can be perfectly mentally healthy and just be an asshole.
I see a very large correlation between things Musk says and things I consider insane. Calling me unthinking and politically motivated because I default to assuming that what he says is insane is a bit insane.
Elon doesn't really fit on the political scale here in Sweden, so bringing up politics is also a bit silly.
Is the pressure of running these companies making Musk go mad? Even his physical appearance has been degrading, clearly as a result of over work and stress.
