Paranoia is categorically the mental illness that prevents someone from recognizing a friend (and maybe catatonia/coma). But when you say "someone with a serious mental illness" you make a sweeping statement that's just...fucked up and lacking of human empathy.

Moreover, you don't know Kanye. You're not his friend (I'm assuming?) Your comments on his possible friendships are lacking in authority. Actually everyone's comments (excepting the few that have actually close relations/have been affected directly) on Kanye's, Elon's, the fucking Queen's, personality and character are moot and lacking in weight.

I agree that Musk, as a flawed human being with disproportionately large amounts of control in the form of money, might not make the world a perfect (or even better) place with even more, other forms of control. But whether or not he's personable? Whether or not his intentions are good? I don't know any of that, and I won't pretend to.

Kanye West is an emotionally disturbed individual. What does friendship even mean for a seriously mentally ill person?

Anyhoo, looking at your comment history, I noticed you are frequently all-in on defending Mr. Musk, regardless of what he might've done. Given the entrenchment, progress in this conversation seems unlikely, so I'm going to close this thread by wishing you all the best alephnan. Take care.

Musk's behavior increasingly suggests he has psychiatric problems. Even if there is someone around him with the guts to suggest he seek help, he probably wouldn't listen.

It would be callous of me explicitly to spell it out, but, going forward, his reputation may be the least of his worries.

I don't think it's OK to remotely analyze a mental illness of another person.

I think that Mr. Musk is an undiluted asshole and one of the worst douchebags to ever grace our planet, which he has proven again and again.

But analyzing his mental condition is sure as shit not up to me or to anybody else.

I mean looking into his mental state is certainly not ridiculous. No matter for or against Musk's his politics, business ventures or 4chan edgelord shit. Being in his position must leave marks on your mental health.

I think it's unfair to imply this relationship between mental illness and treating people badly. Most people with mental illness don't do things like that, and Musk can be perfectly mentally healthy and just be an asshole.

I'm a bit perplexed that you see trashing a man's character with certainty as right and pondering if his actions could reflect a struggle with mental illness as wrong.

I don't like Musk, nor do I trust the things he says, but I usually err on the side of granting people some humanity.

This is a slightly misguided view given that Musk himself has on several occasions suggested that he might be suffering from a mood disorder. If that’s true, then there is a very clear psychiatric explanation for his behavior. Bipolar disorder may also account for some of what we perceive as “genius”. Kanye West is another excellent example of this.

FWIW I’m not denying he’s a highly intelligent person. But that doesn’t exclude the possibility of bipolar.

When dealing with mental illness, attempting to rational behavior is an exercise in frustration.

I'm not a psychiatrist --- but you don't have to be to recognize that Musk exhibits some of the symptoms.

I don't see how your mention of OCD, bipolar disorder, narcissisms or sociopathy is relevant to someone with a supposed social skill disorder being really good at navigating and conquering the social world.

To me the claim that Musk has Aspergers is like being told an Olympic marathon runner has a leg disability.

Does Musk have the same PR people as Kanye West? Being publicly crazy seems a really odd choice and, if it works, quite worrying for the future of humanity.

Musk has clearly acted erratically in the last few years. He must certainly has some kind of brain disfunction. Many such people at certain times appear to be geniuses, but their lives are badly impacted by their lack of awareness of other human beings and insatiable ego. A case that went wrong very early was Elisabeth Holmes. But a lot of these crazy people go on to make a fortune and then the public is lead to believe that they're great, to praise then and even to try emulating them. For example, even with all signs of mental disease, we still see a lot o people incensing Musk as a great person to be imitated.

True. Could very well be that insecurity has driven him. That's probably fairly common. For instance, imposter syndrome is a very real thing and I know that my fight against it has propelled me.

The problem, of course, is that it can also create toxicity. And, Musk being a very powerful man can make that a dangerous thing. I think that's what you're alluding to.

My biggest concern is his apparent belief that his power and "contributions to society" mean he should be beyond accountability or should be able to decide which rules apply to him. That's the stuff of dystopian future sci-fi.

In fact, it concerns me when people believe they should be able to unilaterally decide what rules apply to anyone.

Musk has problems with impulse control. That's why he publicly called a literal hero of dying children a "pedophile". If he didn't have money he would likely not be able to keep friendships functional, because he doesn't know how to interact with other people in a healthy way.

I don't understand how you can look at his public behavior and think anything else. The only alternative is that he thought doing shitty things was a rational way to improve his situation, and I personally think that's a worse option

I think Elon Musk is just mentally unwell.

I have multiple relatives on the spectrum. None of them baselessly accuse strangers of being pedophiles.

It's not Musk's lack of filter that makes him unhinged and dangerous. It's that he's deeply stupid, insecure, racist, enamored of conspiracy theories, and powerful.

Apply the same logic to yourself. You worship the ground Musk walks on and he can do no wrong. Everything he does has a reasonable explanation to you, but if someone else did it then it might not be so reasonable. You have been indoctrinated by a conman and are projecting your psychosis onto other, more reasonable, people.

Really Elon Musk has struck me as honestly in need of psychiatric help - not in a derogatory way but a sincere one. Between the outbursts, shortsighted impulsive decisions, and well being CEO of so many different companies at once it sort of resembles some combination of ADHD and Bipolar.

What do you think I meant with "Musk has all but confirmed"?

I'm not diagnosing him. I'm just pointing out that it makes sens to agree with Musk's self-diagnosis.

Untreated mental illness or autism is not excuse, but it's at least partial explanation. Only people who believe in pseudoscience like soul can think people have something innate like "true self" in them that does not need explanation.

Musk called him a pedophile after he talked about Musk being unhelpful and self-serving during the rescue.

Using your huge Twitter megaphone to smear someone who insults you isn't a guarantee of mental illness.
