Before we even attempt to answer this question: look at the article's URL, its title and its subtitle. The title posted here on HN is badly mangled and implies things not said in the actual article, or at least, not said with the implied emphasis.

sort by: page size:

It is the actual title of the article, but it isn’t clear what the article is about without the byline that HN doesn’t support.

It's a editorialized headline that only appears on HN. The submission itself (it's content) doesn't actually say anything like the title is (was? Seems title changed)

The HN title is right, it's the article's title which is at odds with its contents.

Which is the title on HN, not the title of the article.

Why is the HN title so different from the article's title?

I thought HN very strictly required the title to be the original article's title unless the title was really, really bad?

HN often changes titles when the moderators feel that it's inaccurate or flamebait-y.

In this case, I think it's the entire reason to read the article.

Yes, this is a serious abuse of headline on both counts. Mods, can we change the title on HN? It’s a significant misrepresentation as it stands.

It's extremely important to be scrupulous about what content actually says when posting it to HN. The title you posted was obviously tendentious; please don't do that in the future.

I don't think the headline of some third-party piece is relevant here.

HN titles are often edited after posting, so it's possible the original title misrepresented this.

Am I missing something? The only thing pointing in that direction I see is the submission title here on HN, which is in no way reflected in the article?

What's with the edited title on HN? Now most of this doesn't make any sense.

Yeah, the HN article title is inaccurate.

HN doesn't take kindly to editorializing titles unless the original title is either misleading or linkbait.

> Judging just by the editorializing title

The HN title is the title of the linked SE post (with a prefix stripped).

What's up with HN and these shitty titles lately? This says literally nothing. It isn't rhetorical or helpful at all. Tell me about the article.

The HN title is the article's HTML doc title, which is a legitimate variant to use here.

HN sometimes changes titles to make them less lurid, clickbait-y, etc. Whether that's a bot or not ¯\_(?)_/¯

In this case, the modified title utilizes the more descriptive language of the article's subtitle. Editors edit.

Why is the HN title different to what the article title is. It gives a VASTLY different impression from what is actually reported.
